Changing attitude about organ donation within the black communities.

This project is targeted mainly at the African and African Caribbean communities in South London boroughs of Lambeth, Lewisham and Croydon. ACLT is a long established charity which has been involved in promoting organ donation within the Black communities in the UK. The project will involve ACLT mentors and volunteers, including living donors and recipients from the community who will develop an outreach programme to increase the number of living kidney transplants. The outreach programme will be delivered at a wide range of cultural, social, religious and artistic events as well as events during Black History Month. Those interested in living donation will be identified and face to face meeting will be arranged with them; these will be followed up by follow up discussions with the patients and their family members. Appropriate resources such as leaflets, posters as well as a video targeted at the African and African Caribbean community will be developed and used extensively. Potential living donors will be supported as they go through the living donor assessment process.
