The coordinating voice for Black, Asian, Mixed Race and Minority Ethnic transplant donation

To tackle the disparity and to work towards equity in living donor kidney transplantation (LDKT), it is critical to understand the systemic barriers across healthcare trusts, healthcare professionals and communities.

The Gift of Living Donation (GOLD) developed a 1 year pilot project to improve equity of access to living donation for Black patients. The project was led by GOLD, with Frank Dor as the clinical lead from Imperial Healthcare Trust and support from the LKN.

The pilot project establishes a blueprint for clinical and community Quality Improvement by developing ways of working that allow activity across both sectors to be measured and improved iteratively.

This report shares their learning of a community-clinical framework to reduce inequity for Black patients in a specific part of the kidney care pathway; the combined expertise of GOLD and clinical teams across three diverse renal centres is key to this.
